28 August 2015

I stopped by Kings Point for a couple of hours on my way home from a business trip to Atlantic City, NJ. It was a beautiful day and I got there just before noon.

First I dropped by the band room and Ken's office. It looks like he hasn't used his computer in awhile!

It also looks like we don't have to xerox music anymore - just send it to the laser printer!

Anyone remember these song books?

I stopped by Ken Force's house; I was happy to see his name was still on the door! The front door was open and his golf cart was outside, so I rang the doorbell. Unfortunately no answer - at least I gave it a try.

I watched the regiment muster for lunch on Barney Square.

Here is a video, if you really want to relive the good old days!

I'm surprised that more of our classmates didn't hit their heads on Zero Deck !

Yes, the barber shop is still there...

and the mail room is in the same location.

The waterfront looks like it is continuing the update process.

The old wooden docks and boathouse on the left, were roped off. Looks like it is unsafe to use them.

The inter-club sailboats are lined up on new metal docks. You gain access to them from the other end of the basin.

I had taken a time lapse photo of the Twin Trade towers one night while I was on dock watch. When I returned to KP after 9/11, it struck me that looking under the Throgs Neck Bridge, I could no longer see them at the southern end of the Manhattan skyline. This time, although I couldn't get out to the dock house where we used to stand dock watch, I could see the new Freedom Tower under the bridge.

The "outer" wooden dock has been replaced with a more permanent concrete structure. I assume they are working their way around the waterfront, replacing docks as they have the money.

I had seen USCG boats at the waterfront before. It must be quite a ride buckled into this saddle seat at the bow of this boat!

It seems like every time I have visited KP in the past, the library has been closed. I always loved to look at the big relief globe in the library. This time it was open, so I got to visit the globe again!

Nice late summer day view from Fulton Hall.

Our old 7th Company muster area.

Enjoy....until next time!
